California
Virtual Academies
(CAVA) will celebrate the Class of 2019 with seven
in-person commencement ceremonies at five locations across the state
this month. The nine independent online public charter schools will
graduate a combined total of more than 850 students across California
this year. Ceremonies will take place in San Gabriel, San Diego, Fresno,
Vacaville and San Bernardino.

“We are so proud of our graduating seniors,” said April Warren, head of
school. “Each student enrolls at CAVA with unique challenges behind
them, and unique goals ahead of them. As educators, it has been an honor
to help each of them set the course for their education, and for their
future.”

Of the more than 850 students graduating in 2019, 181 earned their
diploma in January. In addition, 53 of the graduates are 11th graders
graduating a year early. The school is honoring 67 valedictorians –
students who have earned a 4.0 grade point average or higher throughout
their high school career at CAVA.

CAVA graduates earn their high school diplomas in a personalized
learning environment. Following graduation, members of the Class of 2019
will enroll in two- and four-year colleges and universities, enter
military service, or join the full-time workforce. Members of the class
report having been accepted to more than 130 colleges and universities
across the country, including: Arizona State University, Mount Saint
Mary’s University, Pepperdine University, Pennsylvania State University,
seven University of California campuses and the University of Southern
California.

CAVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and
a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes taught by
state-licensed teachers. CAVA also offers field trips and social outings
to foster a sense of school community, such as these annual graduation
celebrations.

Kevin P. Chavous, President of Academics, Policy and Schools at K12
Inc.
will address the graduates and their assembled guests in San
Diego on June 10.

“As CAVA seniors get ready to take on the next chapter in their lives,
the Class of 2019 is set up for success,” said Mr. Chavous. “It is
gratifying to offer K12-powered students a personalized education that
meets the diverse needs of all students.”
