Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit handed down its decision on Mozilla v. the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which upheld for the most part the FCC’s adoption of the Restoring Internet Freedom Order (RIFO).

Upon learning of the ruling, Citizens Against Government Waste President Thomas A. Schatz issued the following statement:

“I am pleased to learn that the court agreed with the FCC that governance of the internet must be through a light-touch regulatory regime and that the agency properly exercised its authority in promulgating the RIFO. This is a huge win for consumers and taxpayers, who can look forward to continuing capital investment in new infrastructure deployments, including 5G mobile network buildouts, without intrusive government over-regulation of today’s open internet.”

Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. For more than two decades, Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers and government officials who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers.
