Crypsis Group vice president Sam Rubin will moderate a panel discussion on how the law and the courts view “reasonable security” in data breach matters at the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Privacy. Security. Risk Conference 2019, to be held next week at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Rubin is a leading cyber security expert who heads up The Crypsis Group’s West Coast operations. His panel, titled Achieving Reasonable Security: Practical Solutions and Guidance, will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 4:15pm to 5:15pm in Brera Ballroom 6, Level 3 of the hotel.

Joining him as co-panelists will be Robert Schoshinski, Assistant Director of the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, and Andreas Kaltsounis, a partner at the law firm of Baker & Hostetler.

The panelists will explore the meaning of the term “reasonable security” as it applies to privacy legislation, regulatory requirements, and information security standards, and particularly how, in the wake of a data breach, the courts evaluate whether or not information security practices were reasonable. They will also offer up their ideas on concrete steps that any organization should take now to show reasonable or appropriate security to regulators, potential litigants, and business partners.

In addition to his management duties in The Crypsis Group’s Los Angeles office, Rubin maintains an active docket of cases and often serves as an expert witness. He has deep expertise in data breach incident response, digital forensics, and cybersecurity risk management. He is a frequent presenter and lecturer on these and other cyber-related topics.

With 50,000 members, the IAPP is the largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource. Globally, the organization holds more than 400 meetings a year, including conferences, trainings, and networking chapter events.

The Crypsis Group is a Gold Sponsor of the Privacy. Security. Risk Conference 2019 and will be exhibiting at Booth #318.
