This Giving Tuesday, Slice — the innovative tech platform powering America’s local pizzerias — announced that, along with Slice Out Hunger, the company is redoubling its efforts to support local businesses while fueling healthcare workers. Through the Pizza vs. Pandemic initiative, Slice will match donations during the month of December up to $10,000 in an effort to reach their goal of 250,000 people fed by the end of the year.

Pizza vs. Pandemic was inspired by the heroes at the front lines of the pandemic. The program feeds front line care workers and the food insecure with coordinated large orders from local pizzerias. Since it launched in March, the program has raised over $660,000 and has fed over 198,000 healthcare workers with pizza from over 700 pizzerias. “Throughout the pandemic, we have felt the urgency to increase our support of the small businesses in our network while also helping those hit hardest by COVID-19, including the food insecure and frontline healthcare workers,” said Slice Founder and CEO Ilir Sela. “With hospitals and food shelters once again becoming overwhelmed, we are redoubling our efforts to feed those in need while also supporting local businesses.”

As part of their ongoing effort to keep both customers and pizzeria workers safe, Slice also announced today the addition of curbside pick-up for customers who order online. When checking out, customers will now have an added option under ”pickup” to collect their order curbside. Slice was one of the first to add contact-free delivery and cash-free ordering into its product to keep both restaurant workers and customers safe during the pandemic.

How Pizza vs. Pandemic works:

  • Make a Donation: During this pandemic, bet on your local business owners and healthcare workers. Big or small, your tax deductible contribution will be added to thousands of others and used to fund pizza orders where care workers need it the most. It’ll take teamwork to win this fight.
  • Slice identifies the need: Using news reports and customer suggestions, Slice looks for care workers with the greatest need. The company then coordinates the delivery, including a pledge to follow strict safety protocols.
  • Slice matches a local pizzeria: Slice finds a nearby pizzeria and ensures that it can accommodate the care center’s needs. The company then places the order using donations it has collected. All additional fees have been waived for orders placed through Slice.

Slice’s underlying mission — keep local thriving — is at the core of all its offerings, including its COVID19 response. Pizza vs. Pandemic continues to feed front line care workers while providing sizable orders to independent pizzerias, now in all 50 states.
