The Regional Municipality of York, home to Canada’s second-largest tech hub with more than 4,500 tech companies, is set to host announcements featuring an estimated $250M worth of new business investment and expansion from its #YRtech Pavilion at Collision Conference.

Business announcements and economic development partnerships presented by York Region’s nine cities and towns will drive innovation in sectors including auto tech, life sciences, semiconductors and engineering. They will also result in more than 800 new tech jobs over the next few years and a total of more than 10,000 additional innovation economy jobs and $1 billion in total capital investments in the long term.

“Returning to Collision in-person to join the best of the best in the tech sector is exciting,” said Jonathan Wheatle, Director of Economic Strategy at York Region. “The calibre of announcements being made in the #YRtech Pavilion speaks to the strength of our business community as a tech and innovation leader on a local, national and global scale.”

Collision Conference will be returning to in-person activities in Toronto for the first time since 2019.

“I can’t think of a more perfect industry event than Collision – one of the biggest tech conferences in the world – for York Region’s municipalities and partners to showcase these significant new additions to the Region’s tech ecosystem,” said renowned tech journalist and media personality Marc Saltzman. “York Region continues to be a tech trailblazer requiring big thinking and bold action. That’s exactly what the mayors, business leaders, post-secondary institutions and partners will bring to York Region’s #YRtech Pavilion.”

There are a variety of exclusive announcements, panels and other activations that will occur over the course of the three days in the #YRtech Pavilion in partnership with the business community, and a range of organizations including York University, Seneca College, OCAD University, ventureLAB, Mackenzie Health, York Angel Investors and others. These include:

  • International and domestic business investment announcements
  • New partnership announcements between municipalities and post-secondary institutions or innovation partners
  • International tech talent panel
  • Daily York Angels RADARxCOLLISION Pitch Sessions
  • Interactive gaming area and live-art installation

“York Region checks many boxes when it comes to an established thriving tech hub – none more important than investing in the founders and talent of tomorrow,” said Katie Salem, Executive Director, York Angel Investors. “Ensuring Canada’s best and brightest minds grow their businesses here, rather than scaling them abroad, requires quality mentorship, ongoing funding opportunities and a fertile tech sector in which to flourish. York Region and their partners understand this as well as anyone in the country.”
