Samsung Lets Slip The Galaxy Gear S2 Smartwatch

Company executive teases Samsung’s upcoming wearable on Instagram

Samsung has given the clearest view yet of its upcoming wearable device, the Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch.

Despite no official confirmation of the device so far, Samsung mobile executive Dennis Miloseski posted a close-up photo of the smartwatch to Instagram with the caption “Giving the new Samsung Gear S2 a test drive” (pictured below).

The round-faced device appears to feature a metal body but smooth plastic strap. There appear to be several buttons on the side of the device, which could well be used for interacting with the Gear S2, although we’ll have to wait a little while longer for exact details.

Coming soon

Samsung-Gear-S2-InstagramSamsung is expected to officially reveal the Galaxy Gear S2 at the IFA technology show in Berlin next month, marking the latest in a series of high-profile releases from the company.

The device, like its predecessor, is expected to run the company’s Tizen operating system, as Samsung continues its opposition to using Android Wear.

It will most probably come with support for Samsung Pay, the company’s attempt to enter the mobile payments market, which is set to launch in the UK soon, following an initial roll-out in the US and South Korea.

The new device may also link up with Samsung latest smartphones, including the recently-released Galaxy S6 Edge+, in an effort to get users to purchase multiple devices by offering options like fitness tracking and push notifications.

The first edition of the Galaxy Gear S came out almost a year ago, featuring a curved screen and 3G connectivity, as well as the ability to make voice calls as well as sending and receiving SMS messages.
