The Munich-based start-up VRdirect presents the latest update of its platform “VRdirect Studio”, paving the way for the widespread use of virtual reality in companies. Through the modular structure and a simpler handling, VR applications can now be created directly in the business departments and without any major IT know-how.

Virtual reality is no longer a technology of the future. This is proven by solutions such as VRdirect, which has just been released in its latest version: numerous new features ensure even better integration of the technology into existing IT infrastructures and thus facilitate widespread use within a company. With VRdirect, specialised departments can easily develop their own VR content without having to resort to the IT. The most recent update includes new features and, with a completely overhauled software architecture, sets the platform up for future improvements in order to further expand the range of possible application scenarios within companies. The new features immediately ensure even better integration of the technology into existing IT infrastructures and thus facilitate widespread use in the company. Among those improvements are support for high-resolution images and animated objects, as well as the ability to place so-called post-URLs, i.e. external links directly within the confinements of virtual reality applications. This not only allows for higher-quality Virtual Reality content, but also makes seamless integration between VR applications and online shops, learning management systems or other media possible.

What’s more, the new version of “VRdirect Studio” sets the foundation for upcoming features that will further increase the application’s range of functions. Among other things, VRdirect has announced 360° live streaming, support for 3D models, asset libraries and backups via the cloud. These and other features are to be released in the course of the year in order to further expand the range of possible application scenarios within companies.

Especially the strict measures in the fight against COVID-19 call for new solutions in order to maintain business continuity as well as innovative interactions between employees, customers and partners in times of social distancing. But even beyond the pandemic, companies need to act now to adapt to the “New Normal”, says Rolf Illenberger, CEO of VRdirect:

“Virtual Reality is still considered an exotic and futuristic technology in the minds of many decision-makers, even though it has long been suited for everyday use with solutions like VRdirect. Learning from our experience from working with partners like Siemens, Nestlé or Deutsche Telekom, we can say with confidence: Companies should take the experiences of the last few months as an opportunity to build up their own expertise in the field of virtual reality, in order to build up know-how at an early stage. This way, even after Corona, they will benefit from the additional technological freedom and flexibility that virtual reality brings to their company – because virtual reality will become the standard technology in everyday business in many areas.”

The technology is already in use by big market players like Siemens, Nestlé or Porsche. In order to also provide SMEs with access to the VRdirect platform, the VRdirect solution is now also available in Deutsche Telekom’s cloud portal. As part of the technology partnership with Deutsche Telekom, VRdirect and the telecommunications group are also planning further virtual reality offerings for Telekom business customers over the course of the year. For everyone interested, “VRdirect Studio” is available in a free trial version at  www.vrdirect.com.
