Telehouse Europe ‘sets new data centre benchmarks’ with North Two Docklands expansion

Data centre provider Telehouse has expanded its London Docklands campus with the opening of ‘North Two’, a building which is claimed to be ‘Europe’s most advanced data centre’.

The data centre, which Telehouse said won’t be available for use until the early 2016, will house carriers, ISPs and ASPs in an area of 23,000 square metres across an 11 storey building. It will also accommodate essential further growth for existing clients as well as setting new standards in data centre efficiencies.

The building joins the already existing 73,400 square metres of space in the existing Telehouse Europe campus, a campus which is home to 532 carriers, ISPs and ASPs.

Telehouse Europe is the primary home of the London Internet Exchange (LINX), a network which is effectively the backbone to the UK’s Internet. Telehouse’s North Two building took an initial investment of £135 million.

Telehouse’s London campus became the first European carrier-neutral colocation facility with the opening of LINX. Telehouse North One was opened in 1990, with Telehouse East opening nine years afterwards. Telehouse Metro was opened in 1997 and is situated near Silicon Roundabout in the City of London.

    Telehouse claims this will address restrictions driven by load fluctuations and delivers a PUE of 1.16 in an N+2 configuration into hot aisle containment.

  • Telehouse said that North Two will also be the only UK data centre that has its ownon-campus 132kV grid substation.
  • North Two will also “continue to provide Telehouse’s high level of resilience and redundancy with 2(N+1) UPS configuration with a total N+1 generator capacity of 18.5MW”.
