OpenStack is a free and open-source cloud computing software platform. Users primarily deploy it as an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution. It began in 2010 as a joint project of Rackspace Hosting and NASA. Then OpenStack Foundation, a non-profit corporate entity, was established to promote OpenStack software and its community. More and more companies have joined the project and the technology is making inroads into the enterprise.
