Windows 10 Already Has Five Percent Of The PC Market

Windows 10 appears to have enjoyed a healthy start to its life in the PC world, having already overhauled some major competitors to become the fourth most-used operating system in the world, new figures have shown.

The latest results from industry observers NetMarketShare have revealed that the latest version of Windows already has 5.21 percent of the total desktop PC market share, meaning it is already ahead of Windows 8 (2.56 percent) and Mac OS X 10.10 (4.76 percent).

Microsoft last month claimed that Windows 10, which was made available as a free update for users of previous Windows 7 and 8 systems, had already been installed on over 75 million devices.

Growing

Overall, Windows 7 still leads the way, running on 57.67 percent of desktops, followed inexplicably by Windows XP (12.14 percent) and Windows 8.1 (11.39 percent).

Microsoft says its mission is to get Windows 10 running on more than one billion devices, while businesses are also being encouraged to upgrade.

A recent TechWeekEurope poll showed that 75 percent of readers plan to download Windows 10, which has been greeted by a strong critical response.

A mobile version of Windows 10 will be released later this year, replacing Windows Phone, with the promise it will work just as well on the small screen as it does on PC and tablet.

  • A couple of my friends at work mentioned that one of the reasons they upgraded was not only because it was a free upgrade but that they were willing to do anything they could to get out of the Windows 8 experience. According to them Windows 10 is a gift from above and everyone should upgrade right away.
What I find interesting though is according to the article Windows 7 actually spearheads the marketshare of Windows OS.
