Vodafone has announced a major expansion to its 4G roaming network, meaning jetsetting customers can now enjoy superfast speeds in 23 locations across the globe.
The operator today said that 19 new destinations across four continents had finally joined Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal to become part of its roaming 4G network, which launched earlier this year.
This means that Vodafone customers on 4G price plans with compatible smartphones and tablets will be able to connect to the company’s network when travelling, as it revealed that UK travellers made around 42 million visits to countries now covered by its 4G roaming network last year.
Vodafone Pay As You Go customers can also benefit from the expansion, with customers travelling within its “Europe Zone” able to enjoy their UK minutes, texts and data for £3 a day using its Vodafone EuroTraveller tariff.
Customers travelling to a 4G destination within Vodafone’s WorldTraveller Zone (e.g. outside of Europe) will be able to use their UK allowance for £5 a day.
“Our customers now have 4G in more countries than ever before as a result of Vodafone’s significant global presence,” said Cindy Rose, Vodafone UK’s head of consumer.
“We are really excited to be able to offer our thousands of customers travelling around the world, whether on business or for fun, an even better 4G experience.”
The full list of destinations now covered by the network is Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and USA.
Vodafone’s 4G network is currently available in 304 large towns and cities across the UK, with the operator also boasting 500,000 LTE subscribers. The company, which recently celebrated the 30th birthday of the Vodafone brand, will be investing £1bn into its UK network, which will see its 2G, 3G and 4G infrastructure upgraded and 150 new shops opened.
