It also comes with a fresh interface featuring multitouch functionality, kinetic scrolling, better graphics and a reworked media player.

According to reports, the operating system’s improved WebKit browser promises a faster web browsing experience and sports the ‘Universal Search’ feature – a search function that lets users to search their entire BlackBerry smartphone, Internet and applicable software for the desired content.

“With BlackBerry 6, I never look for the icons anymore. I just search for the name of the app,” said Research In Motion technical product manager Bhavuk Kaul.

BlackBerry Universal Voice Search

During the BlackBerry developer conference in 2010, speculations began to surround BlackBerry manufacturer RIM’s plan to introduce the Universal Voice Search function.

According to Kaul, the company would be adding voice input to Universal Search, allowing users to literally “tell” their handset what they are looking for.

To get the latest OS update, Three advised its clients via its official Twitter account to “plug phone into PC & update following steps”.

They will find several new features and built-in applications such as Twitter, YouTube, instant messaging and email tools.

RIM President and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said the user experience would feel fresh but familiar, describing the operating system the “biggest step forward for the BlackBerry experience in our history”.
