T-Mobile Launches ‘Truly Unlimited’ Full Monty Plan

UK mobile operator T-Mobile is to launch a new ‘Full Monty’ tariff which offers unlimited texts, calls and data.

T-Mobile claims that the plan is a “landmark for the mobile industry” and will be available on a selection of handsets from 1 February.

You can leave your cap off

The Full Monty is available at four price points ranging from £36 to £61, with only the cheapest tariff having a cap of any sort as it only includes 2,000 minutes. Customers will be able to get a number of smartphones free, including the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy SII.

Interestingly, the plan also allows for tethering and gives users access to unlimited Wi-Fi via T-Mobile’s preferred partner, which at the moment is BT Openzone.

“The Full Monty has been designed for customers who want the peace of mind that there are absolutely no limits placed on their allowances, whilst also knowing they’re getting market leading value for money,” commented Ben Fritsch, head of propositions at T-Mobile.

The tariff represents a break with recent tradition as UK networks shy away from offering unlimited data packages in favour of ‘fair usage policies’ and data caps as the increased adoption of smartphones places strain on their infrastructure.

However, operators continued to advertise their tariffs as ‘unlimited’, prompting the communications ombudsman to order them to be transparent when making such claims. T-Mobile itself was forced to backtrack from its decision to impose a 500MB monthly cap on all its users, instead promising that the restrictions would only apply to new customers.

Three began offering truly unlimited tariffs early last year, but warned that it may begin running out of 3G capacity during 2012 if the auctions for 4G spectrum were delayed any further.
