Orange UK has confirmed that some broadband customers are experiencing ongoing problems trying to access their emails.
However it insists that the problem is only affecting a small number of its customers.
“We are aware that this issue has affected a small number of our broadband customers,” an Orange Broadband spokesperson told eWEEK Europe UK via email.
“We are taking this very seriously, and we have already begun the process to restore the service to those customers who have been affected,” said Orange.
It has been reported that the problem may stretch back as far as July meaning some Orange Broadband customers could have been without email for several weeks now. A call centre support worker told Computer Weekly that the outage was serious.
“There are many customers facing this problem. The problem is with the Orange application and the case has been assigned to engineers,” he reportedly said.
Despite the allegedly lengthy nature of this problem, on the whole it seems that Orange Broadband customers are a satisfied lot with their service provider.
In July an Ofcom survey of broadband customer satisfaction found that Orange, which had taken the wooden spoon for customer service in 2009, now has more happy broadband customers than anyone else with 76 percent.
It has to be said that TalkTalk is having a miserable year so far. In February Ofcom revealed that TalkTalk and Tiscali UK had paid almost £2.5 million in refunds and good will payments to thousands of consumers who had been incorrectly billed for cancelled services. The ISP also revealed at that time that 25,000 broadband customers had jumped ship to rival service providers.
And earlier this week TalkTalk was hit with a financial penalty from Ofcom, as the regulator fined it and subsidiary Tiscali £3 million for incorrectly billing thousands of customers.
