Windows RT Nokia Tablet Images Leak Ahead Of 26 September Launch – Report

Reports suggest 10.1-inch Windows RT-based Nokia tablet is set to be launched next month

Images purporting to be a Windows RT-based Nokia tablet have surfaced on a Chinese website, with reports claiming the device will be revealed at an event in New York next month.

The Verge suggests a date of 26 September has been pencilled in for the launch and says Nokia has been courting developers.

The images show the rear of a red tablet with a similar design to a number of Nokia’s Lumia smartphone range and adorned with Nokia, Verizon and Windows RT logos.

Nokia told TechWeekEurope it does not comment on rumour and speculation.

Windows RT, the version of Windows 8 designed to run on ARM-based architecture, has been the target of criticism from a number of technology companies since it was launched last year, with Nvidia and Asus adding their voices to the chorus earlier this week.

Microsoft in particular has come under fire for launching its own tablet running the operating system, the Microsoft Surface RT, which has angered manufacturer partners who have either scaled back or abandoned plans for their own devices.

It appears as though Microsoft’s gamble to supercharge the Windows RT ecosystem has backfired with CEO Steve Ballmer admitted to poor sales of the Surface RT, but its close partnership with Nokia on the Windows Phone operating system might have encouraged the Finnish manufacturer to take the plunge.

Nokia will certainly hope it fares better than its last effort to jump into a different computing device segment the Nokia Booklet 3G, a netbook which failed to achieve any degree of success at market.
