NComputing Signs Fujitsu Virtualisation Deal

Multi-workplace solutions to integrate multiple devices and operating software

NComputing, a provider of desktop virtualisation solutions, has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) relationship with Fujitsu Technology Solutions.

Fujitsu will integrate NComputing’s 64-bit vSpace virtualisation and Numo system on a chip (SoC) with its PC, servers and services to provide integrated multi-workplace solutions optimised for small to midsized (SMB) customers.

Partnership looks to future

The technology will be marketed under Fujitsu’s Futro brand in an integrated network-ready monitor, Futro DC20-1, and as a standalone client, Futro C400. The multi-workplace solutions will be sold through the channel and will be available immediately in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) markets.

Stephen Dukker, chief executive of NComputing, said partnering with a global top-tier computing company is testament to the leadership role the company has played in solving the complexities, technology barriers and pricing issues that hindered adoption of thin-client computing for years.

“Partnerships such as this are creating entirely new product ecosystems that add value and advantage for everyone, including OEMs, system integrators, the channel and customers,” he said. “Fujitsu’s innovation and leadership in SMB combined with our innovation and leadership in virtualisation will push the total addressable market for virtualised multi-user environments to new heights.”

Fujitsu’s multi-workplace solutions are designed to solve the SMB challenge of having to configure and integrate multiple devices, peripherals, virtualisation software and operating systems to create virtual multi-user environments. Dukker said SMBs will benefit from a “significantly lower” cost of acquisition compared with traditional all-PC multiuser environments as well as ongoing cost savings such as 90 percent lower energy costs and 50 percent reduction in maintenance and support costs.

Solving virtual SMB challenges

“Our SMB customers are looking to reduce costs, bandwidth, IT resources and to simplify their complex IT environment. Our multi-workplace solutions solve this problem,” said Rajat Kakar, vice president of workplace systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions. “With the help of NComputing’s technology, we can deliver packaged solutions that provide powerful multi-computing environments with PC-like performance at highly attractive and affordable price points.”

NComputing’s vSpace virtualisation software combined with its Numo SoC helps enable OEM and original design manufacturer (ODM) companies to design and manufacture virtualised, multi-user access solutions and devices based on Windows and Linux. vSpace software can be deployed alone or integrated with popular server virtualisation infrastructures provided by Citrix, Microsoft and VMware, and it changes the typical virtual desktop structure from one user per virtual machine to 30.

Numo is an integrated SoC that features a dual-core ARM CPU, embedded media processors supporting dynamic bandwidth management, multiple protocols and codecs including UXP and H.264, a Windows-compliant graphics subsystem, and a complete complement of device interfaces for graphics, serial, parallel, USB, SD, I2S and I2C for integration with enterprise and consumer devices
