Motorola Looks To Business With Atrix HD Smartphone

Mobile phone maker Motorola has launched the touch-screen Atrix HD handset, aimed firmly at the business user segment.

The device sports a bevy of security and productivity features and a DuPont Kevlar fiber casing for enhanced strength and durability.

Business Use

A large 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost display, made of scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass, graces the front, and the SmartActions application allows users to customise the phone according to their daily routine. The handset runs on Google’s Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

Motorola did not release information regarding the price of the handset.

With the fully integrated and free SmartActions app, the phone intelligently automates daily routines and suggests ways to personalise the phone. For instance, road warriors might find use for the Drive Smart rule. If accepted, it sets the phone to auto-reply to calls and texts and enables hands-free conversations. Only users can choose whether or not to accept the suggestions, which are based on the time, place and situation. If busy, SmartActions will offer up the Meeting rule. By accepting this, the Atrix HD silences its ringer and activates the auto-text reply, but also selectively lets predesignated VIP callers through.

There’s also a rule that recognises when it’s time to preserve battery power. With the Battery Extender rule, the handset automatically dims its display, turns off the GPS and disables background data. The handset also supports 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and sports a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. In addition, government-grade encryption protects your email, contacts and calendar, while the virtual private network (VPN) feature keeps users plugged into the office when they’re away. The Atrix also has a mirror mode function to present documents directly from the phone to a larger screen.

Camera Options

Additional productivity features include an HD Dock and USB, and the handset also sports a Webcam and a high-speed 8-megapixel camera that zooms in or out with touch-screen control. Motorola has also included a 1.3MP front camera for video conferencing. In addition, users can take snapshots while video recording by pressing the capture button, and the 1080p high-definition video recorder features advanced 30-FPS (frames per second) playback.

Other features include advanced speech-recognition technology by Google, call transfer between handsets, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS and location services, and a wide range of Google mobile applications, including Calendar, Contact Sync, Maps and Talk.

The Atrix also boasts expandable storage (up to 32GB) for when users require it via a microSD slot.
