Microsoft Reveals A Cheaper Surface Book

Microsoft has revealed another version of its home-made laptop, the Surface Book, ahead of the device going on general sale next week.

Priced at $1,499, the latest model is a new variant on the current lowest-end offering that comes with a dedicated Nvidia GPU, rather than having the graphics processor built in to the CPU as is the case with the other models, TechRadar noted.

However, this does mean that the device misses out elsewhere, namely in the storage department, with only 128GB on board alongside an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM, but you will get more advanced graphics capabilities for highly-detailed gaming and media experiences.

Options

Microsoft announced the Surface Book, it’s first ever dedicated laptop, earlier this month alongside a new edition of it Surface Pro tablets.

Weighing in at just 725g and measuring 7.7mm across, the Surface Book was descrtibed as “the ultimate laptop” by Microsoft upon its unveiling.

The 13.5 inch screen packs a 267ppi resolution, and features touch and stylus input (with the latter including the new generation of the Surface Pen). The Surface Book also comes with an all-new ‘dynamic fulcrum hinge’ design that allows the user to hold the device like a clipboard, bringing extra portability to what will doubtlessly be a commonplace work device.

The Surface Book has been available to pre-order from October 7, and will go on public sale from next Monday (October 26).
