TechWeek Readers Unimpressed By iPhone 5C

TechWeekEurope readers prefer iPhone 5 to iPhone 5C, but the majority don’t want either

TechWeekEurope readers would rather have an iPhone 5 than an iPhone 5C, according to our latest poll, but the majority say they would prefer to have no iPhone at all than settle for one of Apple’s budget options.

The iPhone 5C was unveiled alongside the iPhone 5S earlier this month and is pitched as a cheaper, but not by much, alternative to Apple’s flagship smartphone. The iPhone 5 was immediately discontinued, marking a change in strategy for the company, which has previously catered for the mid-range by discounting its previous model.

iPhone 5C poll

iPhone 5C poll chart FinalMany saw this as a recognition by Apple that it could no longer recycle old technology, but 29.9 percent of our readers say they would prefer an iPhone 5, compared to just 12.7 percent who would like the bright colours of the iPhone 5C.

Apple was keen to stress that the iPhone 5C would have all the technology included in the iPhone 5, but it appears as though this is not enough for you, with an overwhelming 57.4 percent claiming they would rather go without an iPhone than take the iPhone 5 or 5C.

Whether this is because the iPhone 5S’s faster processor and Touch ID is too hard to refuse, or because the competition is much more attractive remains to be seen, but Apple claims it has sold more than nine million iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units already.

However, it has neglected to say how many of each it sold, so we’ll have to wait for the breakdown to see if the iPhone 5C has been as universally unpopular as it is among TechWeek readers.
