Huawei reveals first Windows Phone device and smartphone with the world’s largest screen

Huawei has unveiled three new smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, including its first Windows Phone device and what it claims is the largest smartphone in the world.

The Huawei smartphones will be released in China later this month, but no details regarding a UK launch were revealed.

Huawei Ascend W1The Windows Phone 8-powered Huawei Ascend W1 boasts a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor as well as a four inch IPS LCD touchscreen. Huawei claims that the entry-level smartphone offers the longest standby time of any smartphone in its class, around 470 hours of standby time, thanks to its 1950mAh battery.

The device’s design is apparently inspired “by a tropical island” and will be available in four colours – blue, red, black and white.

“The addition of the Ascend W1 to our smartphone portfolio gives consumers access to an even wider range of Huawei smartphones,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “At a price that makes sense to consumers, Ascend W1 underscores our commitment to put smartphones within reach of every consumer, no matter who you are or what you want from your phone.”

The Chinese manufacturer has also taken the wraps off the Huawei Ascend Mate. The headline feature of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device is a 6.1-inch HD display that claims to be the largest in the world, with a screen to body ratio of 73 percent. The Ascend Mate has a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and uses Huawei’s power saving technology to offer two days of “ordinary use” on a single charge.

Huawei’s new flagship device is the five-inch Android 4.1 Ascend D2, which promises six days standby on a single charge. It uses a 1.5 quad-core CPU, has a 13 megapixel camera and will also be available in a 4.7 inch variety.
