Everything Everywhere has been allowed to launch Britain’s first 4G service, and is apparently trying to secure the iPhone 5, which is expected to support British 4G networks. Meanwhile the Financial Times  believes it may be angling to become  the exclusive UK launch partner for the Lumia 920.

The two new smartphones could both be amongst the four or five devices that the new brand, is expected to announce at its launch tomorrow.

Update – 11 September: The EE brand has launched. Full details here

Everything Everywhere received approval to operate a 4G network on its existing spectrum last month, ahead of the auction of bandwidth which will take place later this year. It had been suggested that the service would initially be available in a small part of the country but it is now thought it will roll out much more widely.

The service uses the 1800MHz band, but it remains unclear which bands the iPhone 5 is compatible with, if indeed any. More details are expected to be revealed on Wednesday when Apple has a press announcement, expected to be the iPhone 5.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has confirmed that the Lumia 920 does indeed support 1800MHz, as well as four other 4G bands. The Finnish manufacturer has been reportedly seeking an exclusive launch partner in an effort to replicate the excitement generated by Apple in 2007 when the iPhone launched exclusively on O2.

Any such agreement could mean that Everything Everywhere is the first UK network to release a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. The Lumia 920 was announced last week and features an improved camera, wireless charging and of course, 4G networks.
