EE fixes “gremlins” that prevented users from connecting and says normal service has now resumed

EE has now fixed technical “gremlins” that prevented many of its customers from accessing its network last night and says that all users should be able to use their smartphone as normal.

Many of the operator’s customers reported on Twitter and on the EE Community Forums that they had been unable to make phone calls, send texts or use mobile broadband services from around 7pm yesterday.

“Last night’s technical issue that caused a small proportion of our customers to experience problems with their signal has been resolved and all customers are now receiving a normal service,” said an EE spokesperson. “We apologise for the inconvenience caused to those customers affected.”

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

EE 4G Olaf Swantee (2)TechWeekEurope understands that the problem was not an outage, but rather a glitch that meant some users on EE, T-Mobile and Orange were unable to connect to the network. EE engineers identified the problem overnight and fixed the issue by 5am. If any users continue to have any problems, it is recommended that they switch their phone on and off again.

EE, which has two million 4G customers, was recently named the UK’s best network by independent firm RootMetrics, with its speed and reliability praised by testers. It also has the most comprehensive coverage of any 4G operator, covering more than 160 towns and cities as well as a number of major UK airports.

The operator has invested heavily in LTE since it launched the UK’s first 4G service in November 2012 and recently agreed a deal with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the Finnish networking equipment manufacturer to upgrade its existing network as well as modernise its 2G service.

EE has also penned an agreement with Three for the two firms to share 4G mast infrastructure and the cost of transmission between the masts and their main networks.

Oh no! Here are some other trech failures to savour!
