EE has been forced to recall some of its branded Power Bar chargers following reports that they could pose a fire risk.
The operator has warned customers that Power Bars with the model number E1-06 are being recalled, days after a student from Aberdeen suffered serious burns after her charger caught fire and exploded.
All other models of the Power Bar are safe to use, EE said.
Customers returning one of the affected E1-06 chargers will be issued with a replacement once the investigations are concluded, EE said.
EE began offering a free power bar to all of its customers from April, and has so far handed out 1.1 million units so far, including a recent giveaway at the Glastonbury Festival
Users who can either recharge the device themselves or exchange it for another unit at an EE retail store, although today’s announcement means that EE has temporarily suspended the swap program while it completes this recall process and restock.
EE says each power bar has a lifespan of 500 charges and says its pledge of “never ending power” will help the 60 percent of smartphone users who say their smartphone battery doesn’t last a full day.
