Industry experts warned that cloud computing is changing the rules of the IT game, at the launch of the ChannelBiz website last week.
Businesses are still confused about the cloud and the opportunities it presents, but distributors need to adapt to new conditions quickly if they are to survive in a world where anyone can be a reseller, the event was told.
The majority of channel players are not ready to embrace cloud computing, and feel threatened by the rise of smaller distributors, according to market research conducted by NetMediaEurope, presented at the event by NetMediaEurope’s research director Thierry Hamelin.
Despite the ignorance, the change is happening, and if resellers think it will be over their dead body, they are right, according to analyst Clive Longbottom, director of Quocirca. Longbttom and Malcolm Penn, CEO of Future Horizons shared a panel discussion and Q&A session, led by channelBiz editor Mike Magee.
