Vodafone Appoints Nick Jeffery As New Cable And Wireless CEO

Vodafone has appointed Nick Jeffery as the chief executive of Cable & Wireless Worldwide, following its £1 billion takeover of the company.

Jeffery will move from his current position as chief executive of Vodafone Global Enterprise with immediate effect and will be replaced by Jan Geldmacher, who joined Vodafone Germany in 2008.

Current CWW chief executive Gavin Darby will work with Jeffery to ensure a smooth transition before leaving in October, as will chief financial officer Ian Gibson and acting chief technology officer Dave Broady.

Vodafone fended off competition from Tata Communications to complete its takeover of CWW in April.

Cable and Wireless CEO

Jeffery began his career with Cable & Wireless in 1991 and led its UK and international markets business unit before joining Vodafone in 2004. He was appointed to his current role in 2006, establishing a business unit that serves over 1000 of the operator’s corporate customers.

“Nick is an excellent leader with a deep understanding of enterprise customers’ needs, a track record in value creation and familiarity with CWW’s business,” said Vodafone group chief executive Vittorio Colao. “Similarly, with his strong background in multinational client leadership, Jan will be well-placed to succeed Nick as CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise.”

Jeffery will work with Vodafone UK chief executive Guy Laurence to integrate CWW’s commercial and back office operations while the integration of network and tech assets will be overseen by Vodafone CTO Steve Pusey.

Vodafone recently underwent a structural overhaul of its own, splitting its European unit into two separate divisions.
