CA And Siemens Bond Over Sustainability

A carbon bond has been formed between Siemens IT Solutions and CA Technologies with a strategic alliance they hope will lead customers to carbon-emission legislation compliance.

The partnership was announced at the Green IT Expo in London this week and the companies said that the collaboration is a response to UK and European regulations.

Regulation Requires Closer Controls

The conclusion of the UK government’s initial registration period for its Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme this year has increased the importance of carbon management issues in the eyes of senior managers, the companies said.

They added that the availability of accurate carbon and sustainability performance data to support organisational change has become more relevant following the UK Spending Review, which said that carbon allowances bought by companies would no longer be ‘recycled’ back at the end of the reporting year.

The collaboration will bring together CA’s ecoSoftware suite with Siemen’s carbon and sustainability experience, the companies said, to provide more accurate data and enable the tracking and forecasting of carbon emissions.

“Carbon managers and sustainability executives can quickly deliver reports and forecasts from CA ecoSoftware by systematically pulling together data from thousands of disparate sources across the enterprise,” said Sonny Masero, VP for sustainability EMEA at CA.  “It is a giant leap forward from the spreadsheets that some organisations are still using to manually calculate emissions and liabilities.”

A co-authored whitepaper entitled “Accelerating the Sustainability Journey” has been posted on the web to give a five-step approach to achieving practical and measurable results.
