Windows 8 Asus Transformer AiO Onesie Turns Into Giant Android Tablet

Who doesn’t need an 18.4-inch Android tablet?

Asus has launched the Asus Transformer AiO, an all-in-one Windows 8 PC featuring a detachable 18.4-inch touchscreen display that doubles up as an Android tablet.

The manufacturer claims that the Transformer AiO will deliver the performance of a powerful desktop PC with the flexibility of a tablet when it is released in selected markets during the first quarter of this year.

The Intel Core-powered PC station boasts Nvidia GeForce GT 730M graphics, USB 3.0 and a 2TB hard drive, supplemented by 32GB of free cloud storage for three years, while the touchscreen promises a full HD display.

When operating as a screen for the PC, the screen streams a display over its dual-band Wi-Fi technology, operating as a touchscreen Windows 8 device with the ability to access a range of software as long as it’s on the same wireless network.

When the Asus Transformer AiO touchscreen is detached, it can be switched seamlessly over to running Android on its own internal processor, with a press of the ‘mode’ button.

The tablet has a battery life of up to five hours, and charges automatically through the PC station. When the screen is off somewhere else being an Android tablet, the PC can still be used with an external monitor.

The computer-tablet combo is the latest in a line of hybrid products released by Asus in recent years. The Asus PadFone allowed users to insert a smartphone into a tablet shell, while the Asus Eee Pad Transformer featured a standard tablet complete with a keyboard dock.
