Has Your Spotify Account Been Hacked?

Premium accounts at digital music service Spotify have been compromised with users’ personal information being published online by an unknown hacker.

Hundreds of users have reportedly been affected, with email addresses, passwords, subscription renewal dates and account dates being unveiled in data dumps since February 15. No financial details were included in the leak, though.

Pastebin

The data was published on Pastebin.com by someone with the username Drkaia12. Pastebin is no stranger to data dumps, with various hacker groups such as Anonymous using it to leak information in the past

The Spotify user information was also posted on Twitter by someone using the Twitter handle @hacked_emails.

Spotify denies that a hack took place, adding it always aims to contact users in the event of data breach.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We monitor Pastebin and other sites regularly. When we find Spotify credentials, we first verify that they are authentic, and if they are, we immediately notify affected users to change their passwords. That is what happened this week.”

But some affected Spotify users claim that their leaked passwords were unique to Spotify, according to Forbes. The majority of these users said they had not been contacted by the music streaming service

Spotify has more than 20 million global subscribers and 75 million active users.
