Zyxel Communications, a leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet access and connected home products, shifted their operations to give back to the community on July 18, 2019, during the company’s seventh annual “Day of Giving.” This year, nearly 100 of Zyxel’s employees, family members, friends and business partners volunteered their time and labor to support Giving Children Hope in Buena Park, Calif.

The volunteers from Zyxel worked alongside staff members to assemble food packages to support Giving Children Hope’s We’ve Got Your Back Program (WGYB). The WGYB program addresses the food needs of the local school-age children at risk of hunger due to family poverty. The program was started in 2007 to provide additional food to children when they were not in school, such as weekends, extended holidays and summer months. During school, these children receive federally-funded free or reduced-price, lunches but when school is not in session many students experience limited access to food.

Headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., Zyxel North America selects a non-profit organization each year and turns its “Day of Giving” into a company-wide event that focuses on conducting philanthropic activities in the local community. This year’s volunteer work will help Giving Children Hope provide 10,000 pounds of critical supplies for children and families in need.

“Providing food to over 5,000 children and family members at more than 70 schools year round throughout Orange County is an immensely gratifying but labor intensive mission,” explained Alexandra Nay, Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Giving Children Hope. “Sorting and packing more than 15 tons of food per week requires an incredible amount of labor and we could not fulfill this critical mission without the help of volunteers. The assistance provided by the large team from Zyxel enabled us to focus volunteers in several areas of our operations, and the productivity of this hard-working and dedicated team provided much needed support to our relatively small staff.”

“This seventh annual Day of Giving was particularly special to us because this year marks Zyxel’s 30th year in business and we wanted our community support project to be especially memorable,” said Howie Chu, President at Zyxel North America. “Our Day of Giving events are always focused on giving back to the community, but this year’s partnership with Giving Children Hope allowed our employees, family and friends to get involved, at a personal level, with an incredible organization that is addressing the growing crisis of childhood hunger in our local community.”
