Wyoming Virtual Academy (WYVA) will honor the Class of 2020 at an online commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16.

In lieu of their traditional in-person celebration, WYVA is inviting families and friends worldwide to join the celebration online, with live and recorded speeches from school leadership, students and esteemed guests.

“The Class of 2020 is graduating at a challenging time, but we are thankful that we have been able to provide our students with educational continuity,” said WYVA Head of School Joseph Heywood. “These graduates have worked hard to reach this milestone, and we are proud to honor them and celebrate their academic and personal achievements.”

This year, WYVA will graduate 29 students, many of whom have been enrolled at WYVA their entire high school career. Graduating seniors will receive their high school diplomas, and are making plans to continue their education, join military service, or enter the workforce. Collectively, the class reports having been accepted to colleges and universities across Wyoming and beyond, including Casper College, Colorado Mesa University, Eastern Wyoming Community College, Laramie County Community College, Montana State University, and the University of Wyoming.

Entering its 11th year of operation, WYVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes taught by state-licensed teachers. WYVA also offers student clubs, field trips and social outings to foster a sense of school community, such as this week’s graduation celebration.
