Mr. Smith has spent more than 25 years as a brand communications and marketing expert and is currently president and CEO of Freeport, ME-based L.L.Bean.

Mr. Smith has served as president and CEO of L.L.Bean since January of 2016. Prior to L.L.Bean, Mr. Smith led several brand and marketing transformations as well as operational divisions within Walmart’s international subsidiaries in China and the United Kingdom. This included developing long-range strategies, creating and evolving multi-channel marketing communications, improving operational efficiencies and building strong internal partnerships to improve business processes and results. Additionally, he spent nearly 10 years with the Delhaize Group, where he held a number of management positions, including marketing director for Hannaford Brothers Co.; senior vice president of merchandising for Sweetbay Supermarket; senior vice president of strategy and marketing communications for Delhaize Le Lion in Belgium; and executive vice president of brand strategy, marketing and merchandising for Food Lion. He holds a B.A. in art history from Dickinson College.
