Velodyne was recognized for the Velodyne
Alpha Puck™
, a lidar sensor specifically made for autonomous driving
and advanced vehicle safety at highway speeds. Perfect for Level 4-5
autonomy, the sensor produces an image best described as “stunning,”
with the highest resolution data set in the world. It boasts the longest
range for highway driving and maximum safety.

“Velodyne is honored to have the Alpha Puck celebrated for achieving
automotive innovation excellence by Automotive News and its expert
judges,” said Marta Hall, President and CBDO, Velodyne Lidar. “The
culmination of ten years of lidar development and learning from millions
of road miles, the Alpha Puck demonstrates Velodyne’s leadership
position in providing the smartest, most powerful lidar solutions for
autonomy and driver assistance.”

Lidar sensors are a central component of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and
advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Velodyne is the highest
volume supplier of lidar sensors to the automotive industry with more
than 250 customers globally. Velodyne sensors provide rich computer
perception data that allows real-time object and free space detection
for safe navigation and reliable operation.

The 25th annual PACE
Awards
were presented by Automotive News and the Automotive Parts
Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) for game-changing product and process
innovations. The Government of Canada was a platinum sponsor. The
competition, which included an extensive review by an independent panel
of industry expert judges, was open to suppliers which contribute
products, processes, materials, or services directly to the manufacture
of cars or trucks. The Automotive News PACE Award is accepted globally
as the industry benchmark for innovation.
