Sysdig, Inc., a cloud-native intelligence company, announced today
Sysdig support for Amazon
Web Services (AWS) App Mesh
, a solution that makes it easy to
monitor and control microservices running on AWS. AWS App Mesh
standardizes how microservices communicate, giving users end-to-end
visibility and helping to ensure high-availability for their
applications. With Sysdig supporting AWS App Mesh natively
out-of-the-box, AWS customers will receive additional visibility into
how their microservices, running on Amazon Elastic Container Service
(Amazon ECS) and Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (Amazon
EKS), are performing, giving them additional insight into the security
profile and overall health of their service mesh. AWS App Mesh was
introduced as public preview at AWS re:Invent 2018 and is generally
available today.

Modern applications are often composed of multiple microservices, each
performing a specific function. As the number of microservices grows
within an application, it can become difficult to ensure visibility,
availability, and scalability inside these environments. AWS App Mesh
uses the open source Envoy proxy, making it compatible with a wide range
of AWS Partner Network (APN) and open source tools for monitoring
microservices
.

“AWS App Mesh allows customers to have a single view and a single point
of control for all the communications between microservices in their
application without changing their code,” said Deepak Singh, director of
compute services at Amazon Web Services, Inc. “With Sysdig, AWS App Mesh
users will be able to monitor the performance of their service mesh as
well as view performance and security metrics across their
infrastructure, giving our customers added control of their
containerized environments.”

Visibility and Security of AWS App Mesh and Envoy with Sysdig

With this new support, Sysdig enhances AWS App Mesh monitoring with the
ability to automatically scrape metrics from the Envoy proxy’s
Prometheus endpoint. ContainerVision, Sysdig’s patented data collection
technology, allows enterprises to securely collect, alert on, and
visualize the metrics from Envoy. Once collected, Sysdig correlates the
data with the vast amount of metrics and events data Sysdig collects and
enriches from across the entire container infrastructure, including
Kubernetes.

“Service mesh technology is becoming more critical for enterprise
customers who are building complex services with containers,” said Loris
Degioanni, chief technology officer and founder of Sysdig. “We’re happy
to be one of the first to work with AWS to bring the visibility and
security capabilities of the Sysdig Cloud-Native Intelligence Platform
to AWS App Mesh users.”

Sysdig’s work to support AWS App Mesh shows Sysdig’s commitment to stay
in step with the cloud-native market and broaden its support for
technologies that are critical for microservices deployments. This
support reaffirms AWS and Sysdig’s rapidly accelerating relationship. In
the last six months, Sysdig has announced joining the AWS
Marketplace
, achieving APN
Advanced Technology Partner
status, participating in the launch the AWS
Marketplace for Containers
, and achieving AWS Container Competency
status.
