South
Carolina Virtual Charter School
(SCVCS), an AdvancED and NCAA
accredited, full-time online public charter school, will celebrate the
Class of 2019 during an in-person commencement ceremony on Thursday,
June 6th at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the
Koger Center in Columbia.

Many assume that attending an online public school like SCVCS means that
students miss out on “real” high school experiences, but this in-person
graduation proves quite the opposite.

This year, SCVCS will graduate more than 250 students. This year’s
valedictorian is Noah Rawlings who has received a full scholarship to
Anderson University. Jessica Lord is this year’s salutatorian who will
be attending Auburn University.

Collectively, the Class of 2019 reports it has been offered scholarships
that will total more than $2 million over a four-year period and have
been accepted to state technical schools, colleges and universities
across the country including: University of South Carolina, Clemson
University, Mary Baldwin University, North Carolina State University,
East Tennessee State University, Erskine College, the College of
Charleston, Florida State University, and Bob Jones University.

“Every day, our students demonstrate the highest levels of diligence and
perseverance,” said Dr. Cherry Daniel, head of school at SCVCS. “Their
dedication to learning—a skill they honed in online school—will follow
them wherever they go.”

Students enroll in SCVCS for a number of reasons—some are looking to
escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others
are looking for an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar
classroom setting. SCVCS students access a robust online curriculum in
the core subjects of math, science, English language arts, history, art
and music and a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes
taught by state-licensed teachers. Additionally, a large number of
seniors are enrolled in dual credit college classes which gives them a
“jump start “on their post-secondary goals.
