Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that the city of Richmond, California, launched a new Open Data Transparency data program powered by Tyler’s Socrata® platform, Socrata Connected Government Cloud. The city will use this advanced approach to manage performance reporting, capital projects, and data sharing across the organization.

Transparent Richmond provides the public a more advanced and user-friendly way to view and interact with municipal information like financial data, major development projects, and infrastructure improvement projects. The open data platform currently contains over 300 datasets, visualizations, and performance measures, many of which feature monthly, weekly and daily updates.

“People want to know how well their government is addressing issues they care about,” said Mayor Tom Butt. “Our open data platform is designed to make information gathering easier and more accessible than ever before, and that’s a great benefit for both the public and city staff,” the mayor continued.

The city of Richmond first launched an open data platform in 2016 under an Obama administration effort to release more police data, which was closely followed by the city’s creation of a Climate Action Plan open data site. Transparent Richmond, powered by Tyler’s Socrata platform, aims to improve the collective understanding of all city services, automate performance data to help track and meet budget and service goals, and leverage evidence-based analysis to develop innovative solutions that improve the quality of city services.

“There’s an old saying, ‘If you can’t measure it, you can’t fix it,’” said Mayor Butt. “Ultimately, this online tool will help the city make more data informed decisions and be even more accountable to the community,” the mayor concluded.

Socrata Connected Government Cloud provides a single point of access to municipal performance data for employees working across 11 city departments. This platform will bolster high performance and knowledge among city staff and give the community pathways to have a voice in decisions that affect them.

“The real measures of successful data programs are the usability of data, enabling data-driven decisions, and engaging the public with relevant and timely information,” said Franklin Williams, president of Tyler’s Data & Insights Division. “This technology supports Richmond’s work to lead with data.”
