Earnin, a community-supported financial platform that allows people to access their earned wages before payday, helps prevent overdrafts and helps reduce unpaid medical bills, today announced the appointment of Richard Liu as Vice President of Engineering.

In this role, Liu will work side by side with Earnin’s CTO, Ramaneek Khanna, in shaping the future direction of Earnin’s technology footprint. Liu will lead Earnin’s engineering team in refining its current set of apps and strengthening its technology infrastructure. He will report to Earnin Founder and CEO Ram Palaniappan.

“Richard has a stellar track record of developing technologies, integrating products and scaling engineering organizations,” said Palaniappan. “We look forward to his leadership as we continue to build solutions that empower Earnin’s growing community to take control of their financial future.”

Liu comes to Earnin with rich experience in launching innovative products in both leading technology companies, such as Google and Facebook, and in the startup world. As a former Engineering Director at Google, he was a key leader in Enterprise Search, Google Shopping and Google Fi, Google’s beloved carrier service. He was also the CEO and Co-founder of Leap.ai, an intelligent career platform that matches users to the right jobs, that was acquired by Facebook.

“I am inspired by Earnin’s mission to build a fair financial system that works for everyone. With Earnin’s Net Promoter Score as high as 80, it is clear that the company is providing tremendous value to its users. I’m excited for the opportunity to lead the team to scale and continue to drive innovation to achieve greater financial equality for everyone,” said Liu.

About Earnin

Earnin is a community-supported financial platform with a suite of products that gives people the tools to take control of their financial future. Earnin started out by solving one of the greatest – and least discussed – inequities in the American financial system: the practice of employers paying workers bi-weekly. Earnin’s core product, Cash Out, allows people to access the pay they’ve already earned. There are no loans, fees or hidden costs. People pay what they choose. Other products include: Balance Shield, which helps prevent overdrafts, a financial calendar that helps people budget and schedule payments, and Health Aid, a service that negotiates unpaid medical bills without charging mandatory fees.

Current funding partners include: Andreessen Horowitz, Matrix Partners, Ribbit Capital, Felicis Ventures and March Capital.
