Next Coast Ventures, an Austin-based venture capital firm investing in entrepreneurs on the ‘Next Coast’ of innovation, today announced Scott Miller as its new Entrepreneur-in-Residence as part of its mission to partner with innovative entrepreneurs creating companies that match its investment themes.

Miller comes to Next Coast Ventures with more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, public company executive, and venture investor. Prior to joining Next Coast Ventures, Miller was the Co-Founder and VP of Products at TrustRadius, a pioneer in B2B technology reviews. At TrustRadius, Miller led the design and development of both the trustradius.com site from initial launch through growth to over 750,000 monthly in-market buyer site visitors, and TrustRadius’ commercial product offerings from inception to adoption by over 100 leading software companies.

“Scott is a tremendously talented technical founder and executive,” said Thomas Ball, co-founder and managing director of Next Coast Ventures. “I have worked closely with Scott for 15 years. At TrustRadius, Scott was instrumental in product development and engineering that put the company on the path to rapid growth. It is always important to us to have a strong entrepreneur in the office to provide their perspective on market trends and technology and to assist our portfolio company executives. Scott brings his product, software development and operational expertise, his passion for entrepreneurship and his extensive knowledge of the Austin technology ecosystem as both an operator and investor. We are delighted to partner with him as he identifies his next project.”

During his residency, Miller will focus on incubating ideas and solutions around Next Coast Ventures’ core investment themes of Software 3.0, Communities Not Social Networks, and Reimagining Marketplaces. “I am looking to step into an investment focused on B2B. I have been in the subscription software game since 1996, having helped build information marketplaces at TrustRadius, Vast and pcOrder. I am excited to find more great concepts along those themes,” Miller said.

Prior to cofounding TrustRadius, where he still serves on the board, Miller served as Chief Operating Officer of Vast.com (since acquired by Vroom.com), a white-label operator of marketplaces for consumers in the automotive and real estate verticals, serving tens of millions of monthly visitors across dozens of brands. Miller holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an M.Eng and SB degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Miller has called Austin home for more than 25 years and when not in the office, enjoys spending time with his wife Mary and their two children and enjoys playing poker, cooking, and running.
