Minnesota
Virtual Academy
(MNVA) will celebrate the 140 members of the Class
of 2019 with an in-person commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 2 at the
University of Minnesota’s Coffman Memorial Union in Minneapolis. An
accredited, tuition-free online public school program of Houston Public
Schools, MNVA is available to students in grades K-12 across the state.

“On behalf of the entire MNVA community, I want to congratulate the
class of 2019,” said Krin Abraham, MNVA Head of School. “Students and
their families choose to enroll in online public school for a variety of
reasons, and it has been our pleasure to provide the learning
environment that helped them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.”

MNVA graduates earn their high school diplomas in a personalized, online
learning environment. Following graduation, members of the Class of 2019
will enroll in two- and four-year colleges, universities and trade
schools, enter military service, or join the full-time workforce.

Members of the graduating class report having been accepted to a number
of higher education institutions across the region, including: Berkshire
Community College, Central Lakes College, Drake University, Michigan
Technological University, Minnesota State University – Mankato, and the
University of Minnesota.

Graduating senior Meghan
Brown
of Chatfield has received an academic and athletic scholarship
to play soccer at Drake University. “It has always been a goal of mine
to play Division 1 college soccer,” said Meghan. “By attending school
online, and thanks to my supportive teachers, I was able to travel the
country with my team, without having to sacrifice my education.” Meghan
will graduate MNVA as an honors student, and has earned four college
credits along with her high school diploma.

MNVA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and
a host of electives, and attend live virtual classes taught by
state-licensed teachers. MNVA also offers field trips and social outings
to foster a sense of school community, such as this annual graduation
celebration.

Science teacher Peggy Knetter-Johnson has been selected by the students
to deliver the keynote address at Sunday’s ceremony.

graduating seniors will be available for interviews. Details of the
