Some in the workers’ compensation industry have adopted telehealth
technologies for triage and nurse case management, but the role of these
technologies in physical therapy has not been fully recognized. Jill
Carnahan, PT, DPT, a licensed, physical therapist on MedRisk’s staff,
will discuss how various telehealth technologies are being used to
deliver physical therapy and the benefits of telerehabilitation at the
PERMA 2019 Annual Conference, May 23 and 24.

The session, “I Know a Change Is Gonna Come — Telerehabilitation — Is
It A Viable Option for Injured Workers?” will also provide criteria for
determining if telerehabilitation is a good fit for an organization and
examine the characteristics of injured workers who are most likely to
benefit from it.

“Depending on the injury, it can supplement in-clinic visits to improve
outcomes,” said Carnahan, who provides telerehabilitation services to
injured workers. “Telerehab increases access to care, especially for
employees who travel a lot for work or live in rural areas. Plus,
injured workers receive videos that remind them how to correctly perform
an exercise, and this tends to improve compliance.”

The session will be held on May 23, starting at 2:40 p.m., as part of
PERMA’s annual conference, which will be held at the Sagamore Hotel and
Resort in Bolton Landing/Lake George, New York. Please see https://www.perma.org/calendar/perma-2019-annual-member-conference/
