K2View, a leading provider of real-time, distributed data management solutions, today announced that it has been issued a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the concept of a logical unit and its associated micro-database. This patented technology enables K2View solutions and customers to integrate, organize, store, access, and secure data, delivering a holistic, 360-degree view of customer and other business data in real time. The patent also covers the systems and methods built around this concept, including the innovative use of micro-databases to store all available information for each individually identifiable business entity.

K2View’s technique effectively shifts the focus of business data management from application-centric to data-centric and unlocks the potential for organizations to efficiently operationalize the enormous amounts of data collected across their ever-expanding data sources. This is a critical shift as organizations struggle to deliver operational insights in support of digital transformation initiatives.

“The innovation behind this patent marks a generational shift in how organizations approach data organization and management. It’s now possible to operationalize enterprise data in real time, regardless of where the data originated,” says Nick Lazzaro, CEO of K2View. “Some of the largest companies in the world have chosen K2View Fabric because they need a complete, real-time view of data associated with individual customers, products or other critical business entities. This data access is foundational to creating the customer experience and enterprise operations needed in the digital age.”

“One of the biggest challenges with data management today is delivering real-time data in a way that matters to the business,” said Achi Rotem, co-founder and CTO of K2View. “Our patented technology enables us to quickly model the data that is most important to our clients, connect it to the new micro-databases, and secure each micro-database with individual encryption keys. As a result, we can deliver complete 360-degree data access and control in real time, regardless of where data lives and with minimal impact to existing systems. This is only possible with the fundamentally different approach that’s enabled by the micro-database.”

Rotem continued, “If they could, today’s enterprises would design their databases very differently than they did 20, 10 or even 5 years ago. Back then, solution providers required an application-centric view of data – essentially a database for each application. But getting real-time insights into individual customers and other entities requires a data-centric approach – one that doesn’t need integration across disparate application data stores or sifting through massive data sets to deliver the right data where and when it’s needed. K2View’s use of this patent in K2View Fabric and other solutions delivers this data-centric approach, even for organizations that maintain hundreds or thousands of existing systems.”

Patent NO. 10,311,022, “CDMS (Cloud Database Management System) Distributed Logical Unit Repository,” was awarded to K2View on June 4, 2019.
