“At JOANN, we believe the only way to make this season better, is to make it yourself. We want to inspire crafters at any skill level to give the gift of something handmade,” said JOANN Stores Chief Customer Officer Chris DiTullio. “Whether it’s making for a charity, a handmade card, homemade cookies or personalized pajamas, we aim to inspire all to create this special time of year. And with less time between holidays this year, we’re providing customers with new omni-channel services and special promotions to get their shopping, crafting and decorating done early.”

New Crafting Technology

JOANN continues to make it easier and less time consuming to channel creativity with the introduction of new crafting technology. Today JOANN introduces 3D printers to its assortment, as the Polaroid PlaySmart 3D printer and 3D Sculpto printer are now available in the U.S. for the first time, exclusively at JOANN.

With these compact, portable 3D printers, people of all ages can create any project imaginable in as little as a few hours or even a matter of minutes – perfect for making personalized gifts or for inspiring a budding creator. Each 3D printer easily fits into your home, classroom or office environment and both come with software so you can seamlessly print items directly from your smartphone, tablet or PC.

“At JOANN, we’re continuously updating our offerings to ensure we’re evolving with our customers and maintaining our position as a leader in the retail craft space. This year, we are prioritizing innovations in crafting,” said Rob Will, Chief Merchandising Officer at JOANN. “Customers are asking for convenience and more time-efficient ways to create, and we’re bringing them new tools to bring their inspiration to life.”

The Polaroid and Sculpto 3D printers will be available in over 500 stores and online for $599.99 and $499.99, respectively.

In addition to 3D printers, JOANN continues to expand its investment in technologies including Cricut and Glowforge to allow anyone – even those who aren’t skilled crafters – to create personalized cards, t-shirts, home décor and more. JOANN boasts the biggest Cricut assortment on the planet, and announced its investment in startup Glowforge earlier this year.

Omni-Channel Options

The retailer is also featuring updated shopping services to ensure customers get the products they need, wherever they are, quicker than ever before. This year, JOANN will offer a same-day, buy online / pick-up in-store (BOPIS) shopping for last minute shopping needs and has implemented Ship from Store (SFS) capabilities in several hubs to get customer orders out faster than ever.

The JOANN app and eCommerce business also continue to accelerate omni-channel growth, and consumers can find inspiration for projects, discover helpful how-to’s, shop for product and access their coupons all in one place. The JOANN app is one of the most opened in retail, with more than 10.8 million downloads and 2.2 million active monthly users.

“Today’s customers are incredibly busy, particularly with the shortened holiday shopping season this year,” said DiTullio. “We are focused on helping to make their holiday preparations easier and more convenient than ever in both our stores and through and our mobile app.”

Enhanced Store Experience

As first seen in its Concept Store last year, JOANN also continues to open new stores and remodel existing stores featuring cutting-edge technology, dedicated learning spaces and custom services, such as:

  • The Creators’ Studio, a large open community space where customers can take classes, host events and work on projects while enjoying a cup of coffee;
  • Tools available for rental, including long-arm sewing machines, Cricut machines, and Glowforge, which cuts and engraves anything from wood to acrylic;
  • A Modernized Cut Bar, which allows customers to digitally “check in” and continue shopping until a text message alerts them a Team Member is ready to cut their fabric;
  • A concierge service called JOANN’s Custom Shop, which offers custom sewing services for anything from suit tailoring to home décor; and
  • New Cricut Shops in 13 stores, with added square footage, demo spaces, work tables and expanded machine and material assortments.

In 2019, JOANN opened 25 remodeled stores – including seven in October – to better serve customers across the nation. JOANN will continue to roll out these features and more in stores across the nation, through an investment in reinvigorating their fleet and making JOANN a destination inspiring and sharing creativity.
