Gurobi Optimization, LLC today announced the promotion of Dr. Tobias Achterberg to the position of Vice President of Research and Development (R&D). In this new role, Dr. Achterberg will lead Gurobi’s growing R&D department, oversee the development of the Gurobi Optimizer (the world’s fastest and most powerful mathematical optimization solver), and become a member of Gurobi’s senior management team.

Dr. Achterberg – who began his career in the mathematical optimization software industry in 2006 and joined Gurobi in 2014 – previously held the positions of Senior Developer and Director of R&D at Gurobi. Over the years, he has played a crucial part in the development of the Gurobi Optimizer, which continuously sets new standards in terms of solver speed and functionality.
Dr. Achterberg managed the recent release of Gurobi 9.0 – the latest version of the Gurobi Optimizer – which delivers substantial performance improvements and contains major new features including a bilinear solver that enables non-convex quadratic optimization.
