“Bob is well known across the public and private sectors as a luminary in areas of defense strategy, programming, budgeting and readiness, supply chain security and acquisition reform, and advanced technologies like artificial intelligence,” said Eric Gillespie, Govini’s Founder. “In this era of great power competition, his vision and expertise will serve us well as we continue to develop unique data science based decisioning solutions for the Department of Defense.”

Work also serves on the board of Raytheon Technologies Corporation (NYSE: RTX), one of the largest aerospace and defense manufacturers in the world by both revenue and market capitalization, with more than 195,000 employees.

“Data science and machine learning provide DoD leadership with the ability to make informed decisions,” said Bob Work. “Govini’s industry-leading data science and machine learning solutions put decision-grade data directly in their hands. I very much look forward to helping lead Govini through its next phase of significant growth in support of mission outcomes.”

During his 27-year military career, Work held a wide range of command, leadership and management positions. He commanded an artillery battery and a battalion, and was the base commander at Camp Fuji, Japan. In 2009, Work was appointed to serve as the Undersecretary of the Navy, a position he held until 2013. From 2013 to 2014 he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Center for New American Security (CNAS) before returning to the Pentagon with his appointment as Deputy Secretary of Defense.

Work has served as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, where he taught defense analysis and roles and missions of the armed forces. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a Master of Science in systems management from the University of Southern California; a Master of Science in systems technology (space system operations) from the Naval Postgraduate School; and a master’s in international public policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
