Destinations Career Academy of Wisconsin (WIDCA), an accredited, full-time online public school, invites parents to imagine what their children could do with the right education, as students and teachers get ready to log on and start the 2019-2020 school year on September 3.

WIDCA offers a personalized approach to learning, delivering rich, engaging curriculum designed to assist students who seek alternative pathways to education. WIDCA is authorized by the McFarland School District.

While attending WIDCA, students can participate in the Destinations Career Program where they can discover exciting options for their future in career fields like Business, IT, Health and Human Services, and Manufacturing and the Trades. They can also earn college credits through partnerships with local colleges and universities and prepare to take industry-recognized certification exams upon graduation. Other work-based learning opportunities such as internships and apprenticeships are also available.

The first day of school at WIDCA comes as families across the nation are eagerly seeking more ways to prepare students for career success before high school graduation. According to a recent survey conducted by Morning Consult, only 12% of parents strongly agreed that their school system is doing enough to prepare students for a career. Career readiness programs are designed to help bridge this gap.

“At WIDCA, we want every student to have clear guidance, support, and tools that help them prepare for college and career,” said Nicholas Sutherland, Head of School for WIDCA. “Our program fosters creativity and independence while equipping students with the resources they need to grow personally and academically.”

“This is high school, and our students should be allowed to see if a certain career pathway is right for them, and change their direction if it isn’t,” says Pat Acker, WIDCA Destinations Administrator. “We like to empower our students to shape their own future by giving them early exposure to a variety of career options.”

In addition to online classes and career opportunities, WIDCA also offers student clubs, in-person field trips, and social gatherings to foster a sense of school community.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment, and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. WIDCA’s online platform gives students the opportunity to pursue their academic goals in a supportive environment and at an appropriate pace for their learning style.

WIDCA is still accepting enrollments for the 2019-2020 school year. Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school. More information on WIDCA, how to enroll, and a schedule of upcoming events can be found at https://widca.k12.com/.
