ApacheCon is the largest gathering of open source developers and enthusiasts. DataStax has been the largest contributor to the Cassandra project since its inception more than 10 years ago. As part of its support for open source, DataStax has increased its commitment from teams spanning engineering, documentation, and curriculum development professionals to deliver:

  • Contributions, updates, and maintenance of Java, C++, C#, PHP, Python, Node.js, and Ruby drivers
  • Testing support for the Cassandra 4.0 release and future releases
  • Ongoing bug fixes to be released back to the Cassandra project
  • Documentation of the current Cassandra release and the upcoming 4.0 release
  • Updated training material specifically covering Cassandra 4.0
  • In-person meetups around the world, Cassandra Days, and DataStax Accelerate

At ApacheCon, DataStax will have three speaking sessions:

  • Jonathan Ellis, Chief Technology Officer and SVP at DataStax, will participate in the Tuesday morning keynote, covering DataStax’s commitment and contributions to the Cassandra community.
  • Jeff Carpenter, Director of Developer Advocacy at DataStax, will present a session titled, Mythbusting with Apache Cassandra.” The talk will discuss the various myths and misunderstandings about Cassandra, including that it’s a “columnar” database and that it’s only good for a narrow set of use cases.
  • Patrick McFadin, VP of Developer Relations at DataStax, will present a session titled, Happiness is a hybrid cloud with Apache Cassandra™.” The session will cover why Cassandra was built for hybrid cloud implementations and how it makes it easy for companies to fully exploit their cloud strategies without having to re-architect their applications or change their systems for data management.

“DataStax and the Apache community have a tremendous opportunity to collaborate and make Cassandra the leading NoSQL database in the enterprise,” said DataStax Chief Marketing Officer Cate Lochead. “ApacheCon is where developers interested in contributing in a meaningful way to the Cassandra project gather to build community and brainstorm new innovations. Supporting the community is a priority for DataStax, so naturally we want to engage with attendees, share learnings and best practices, and advance future plans.”
