The COPC Indirect Procurement (IP) Standard Steering Committee, the guiding body of the COPC Indirect Procurement Standard, met in virtual conference Tuesday, April 21 as a part of the working group’s ongoing calendar of activities.

The agenda for the meeting included a presentation on Supply Chain Resiliency by Dana Hullinger, Instructor at Western Michigan University’s Haworth School of Business and formerly of Boeing, as well as a round-table discussion on the impacts of COVID-19 on member operations and current and planned steps for addressing the challenges of the pandemic on the current supply chain environment.

“The unique nature of this pandemic with respect to our supply chains is that it is truly global,” said Cory Locke, co-chair of the Indirect Procurement Steering Committee and VP of Global Procurement at HPE. “Adding to this,” said Mike Simms, co-chair of the Indirect Procurement Steering Committee and Founder of The Simms Group, “most organizations have historically focused their business continuity planning on recovery from loss of infrastructure. This pandemic has introduced an entirely new set of workforce and workplace issues to address.” Both Cory and Mike share the perspective that high-performing procurement organizations should already be asking themselves tough questions about the resiliency of their supply base, and about the actions that need to happen now to plan for the future.

The IP Steering Committee is scheduling monthly meetings for the foreseeable future as the situation evolves.
