Compugen has awarded its 2019 Technology Innovation in Community Engagement Award to BCLC. The award recognizes and celebrates organizations that enhance communities through their contribution, commitment and leadership. BCLC was selected as this year’s winner for two Kamloops-based, technology-focused initiatives that helped deliver technology skills and employment opportunities to members of the community.

“The work BCLC is doing in Kamloops is providing opportunities for individuals who are working hard to create new skills and gain work experience,” said Robin Spence, Regional Director in B.C. “These initiatives showcase the commitment BCLC has to giving back to their community. In July 2018, BCLC donated 10 laptops to the Elizabeth Fry Society’s Lived Experience Committee, and provided the technology required for the production of the first-ever Big Edition publication, issued in January 2019. The Big Edition is a social venture organized by the Lived Experience Committee that helps individuals who are struggling to gain employment develop new skills in publishing and news distribution. The Big Edition initiative also provides an alternative to panhandling in Kamloops. The laptops donated by BCLC were installed with new Microsoft software via Compugen’s Green4Good® program.

Compugen is also recognizing BCLC for donating 23 desktop computers to the Enactus E-Cycle program. The program, in partnership with New Life Community, PC Doctor and Thompson Rivers University, offered participants of New Life Community’s Self-Directed Relapse Combat Program a chance to gain new technical skills and work experience restoring outdated computers by replacing their hard drives and software.
