In October, the Alabama Secretary of State, in conjunction with Alabama Interactive, launched two solutions tied to the Fair Campaign Practices Act. Internally, the office implemented a new Violation Tracking System, and externally, a new payment portal was launched. These two solutions work together to allow for more efficient tracking and management of violations while also providing an easy payment option for those penalized for failing to comply with the act.
The public-facing aspect of the platform provides individuals or committees in violation of the act with the option to pay their fines with a credit card online. Organizations receive notice with a unique violation locator number that is used to identify their penalty amount. Users can also view their previous transactions and process any outstanding balances.
Not only does the platform improve the public’s experience, but the online tracking system also allows the Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s office to more effectively manage violations and payments in one robust solution. The program automates critical steps previously completed manually by Secretary of State personnel, therefore increasing efficiency of data entry and productivity internally.
Funds paid by individuals and committees to the Secretary of State’s Office are deposited directly into the State General Fund.
