Nucleus Research has released the 2019 HCM Technology Value Matrix, an assessment of the human capital management (HCM) market based on the value customers realize from the product usability and functionality that HCM vendors are currently delivering with their solutions.

HCM Technology Value Matrix Leaders include: Ceridian, Infor, Oracle, SAP SuccessFactors, SumTotal Systems, and Ultimate Software.

As the pressure on HR departments to find and retain talent builds amidst historically low unemployment and record labor participation, HCM vendors are expanding the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of analytics and reporting. Organizations have leveraged these new technologies to change the way they categorize and measure employees and emotional sentiment. Modern on-demand pay has also emerged as a major area of innovation, allowing organizations to offer employees controlled, readily available access to funds.

“Competitive labor markets are pressuring organizations to seek out vendor solutions that can give them an edge when it comes to attracting, hiring, and retaining the right talent,” said Ian Campbell, CEO of Nucleus Research. “AI and machine learning give organizations unprecedented insight into an employee’s personality, work style, and emotional sentiment.”

“With pay-related concerns among the primary reasons why hourly employees seek new opportunities, on-demand pay offerings from leading HCM vendors have enabled organizations to attract and retain talent by giving workers access to pay when it is needed,” said Trevor White, analyst at Nucleus Research. “Though in its early stages, on-demand pay is expected to be embraced by more HCM vendors given its inherent value to organizations.”

The Nucleus HCM Value Matrix measures the ability of HCM vendors to deliver value in usability and functionality and are placed into four categories: Leaders, Experts, Facilitators, and Core Providers. Customers can use the Matrices to evaluate vendor short lists as well as to make the case for maintaining existing applications.
