Intel has appointed a former Qualcomm executive to lead the former’s efforts in the Internet of Things (IoT),
Venkata ‘Murthy’ Renduchintala will lead the newly created Client and IoT Businesses and Systems Architecture group.
At Qualcomm, he was an executive vice president as well as co-president of Qualcomm’s CDMA Technologies (QCT) arm, where he was responsible for heading up the company’s semiconductor business. Renduchintala will also be joining the Intel executive board as part of his appointment.
The group will now work together to combine knowledge on mobile, connectivity and hardware issues for Intel’s future developments.
“Intel’s strategy and direction is solid, and we continue to evolve our organizational structure to better position the company for growth,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “The calibre of leadership and experience Murthy brings to our executive team represents a significant move toward delivering the benefits of our strategy even faster than before.”
Renduchintala’s appointment marks the latest move by Intel in strengthening its position as an Internet of Things leader.
Earlier this month, the company held an event in San Francisco to show off its latest innovations and creations, with Krzanich heralding the IoT as bringing on “the third wave of computing”, marking the transition between having humans enter data to the cloud, replacing them with machines, creating an explosion of information.
Last week, Intel also revealed it would be working with Hewlett Packard Enterprise to create and develop new products that will help organisations quickly gather and analyse data from their connected devices.
